Ashwagandha is a valued herb used in Ayurvedic medicine. Ashwagandha in translation means, among other things, "the smell of a horse", which is related to the strong smell of the crushed root, which is traditionally used. Among the active substances in ashwagandha are mainly Withanone, Withaferin A, Withanolides and other complexes and variants thereof.

Different dietary supplements contain very different amounts of active withanolides, which is due to different raw materials and processing processes, so it is important that the extract is standardized to a certain percentage of total withanolides.
