Serrapeptase is a protein-cleaving proteolytic enzyme first isolated from a useful bacterium of the genus Serratia sp. E 15, which was first discovered in the guts of a silkworm larva. It is used for its ability to break down specific proteins of non-living tissue, including fibrin.
